What are tendon boots used for on horses?
Tendon boots are an excellent investment for a horse. While jumping, some horses strike their front legs with their hind hooves. In some situations, this leads to severe injuries. Tendon boots are widely used in show jumping, but you will also see them on dressage horses. We also offer leg protection that can also be used for horses that are in the paddock or pasture. With good protection, you reduce the risk of your horse getting injured while training or competing.
What's the difference between brushing boots and tendon boots?
Tendon boots are mostly used by showjumpers. A tendon boot is open in the front to allow the horse to feel when it touches a pole while jumping. Whereas brushing boots are around the whole leg to protect the inner leg, tendons and fetlocks from impact.
Which tendon boots does my horse need?
There are many kinds of tendon boots, so it’s important to purchase the right one for your horse. First, it’s important to choose the right size when choosing boots. Make sure that the tendon boot is not too tight, as this can impede blood circulation. A horse must be able to always bend and stretch its leg. Ventilation holes prevent the overheating of legs and tendons.
On every product page, we offer a size guide that helps you choose the right size for your horse or pony. Our tendon boots have two different types of closures. We have elastic and velcro closures. Choose a type of closure depending on your preference or competition rules.
How do I know which size tendon boots my horse needs?
On each product page, you’ll find a size guide to help you find the right size for your horse. This can be easily found by measuring the circumference off your horse’s leg on the cannon area. Front and hind legs have different measurements so it’s best to measure both.
How should horse boots fit?
You should be able to have one finger between the tendon boot and the leg of your horse. Your finger should feel snug between the boot and the horse’s leg. When the boot is too big, dirt and sand could get inside and cause rubbing marks. It also won’t stay in place and disrupt the horse’s movement.
