Which horse girth do I need?
A horse girth is inextricably linked to the saddle. Thanks to the horse girth, the saddle stays properly in place on your horse’s back. For this reason it is important that you choose a horse girth that fits properly. You must allow some leeway, since your horse’s physique can alter with training. That’s why the length and type of horse girth are important. In this way you will also prevent rubbing.
What are the different types of girths?
We offer different kinds of girths for different kinds of disciplines. Our jumping girths are recommended in combination with a jumping saddle. Thanks to the stomach flap on our stud girths, your horse is protected from its horseshoes during the jump. A dressage girth is especially designed for a dressage saddle and therefore shorter than a girth for a jumping saddle. Our girths are available in black or brown to make sure it matches all of your horses tack. To prevent rubbing, most of our girths come in a sheepskin version as well. This is functional while making your look complete. Whatever your particular needs, Kentucky Horsewear has horse girths for jumping, dressage and eventing. This means we have something to please every rider. Find inspiration on our website and discover our range of horse girths.
Which girth size do I need for my horse?
When measuring the girth size of your horse, it’s better to ask someone to help you. This person can hold the saddle in place. Measure with a tape measure from the second or third hole on the girth strap of one side of the saddle. The person helping you can hold the measuring tape in place while you go under the belly to the other side of the saddle. Here you also measure from the second or third hole. The length you get is the size of girth you need. If you measure the girth too high on the saddle, it won’t be easy to tighten the girth. If you’re planning to buy a sheepskin girth, you don’t need to worry about needing a bigger size, you can just buy the girth size you normally have.
